ENGLEWOOD, Colorado – June 20, 2024 – Mobile TV Group (MTVG), the live broadcast technology services company, today announced two major promotions within the leadership group. Philip Garvin, founder and former CEO, will fulfill the role of Chairman of the Board, and Nick Garvin, former COO, will take over the role of CEO.
For Philip, 2024 marks 50 years in broadcasting. After starting as an author, photographer, producer, and director, Philip launched Colorado Studios in 1974, and then in 1994, launched what became Mobile TV Group. In 2001, Philip launched HDNet/AXS.TV with Mark Cuban.
At MTVG, Philip Garvin played a pivotal role in leading the company through significant growth and innovation, while also shaping the live production technology landscape as a whole. His appointment to Chairman preserves his valued leadership and expertise with the company while empowering CEO Nick Garvin to run the overall operations and direction.
“Mobile TV Group has seen incredible growth in my 30 years as CEO and it is with immense pride that I transition into my next role within the company,” said Philip Garvin. “Nick took over significant responsibilities a few years ago, proved his management and guidance during pivotal inflection points, and has a vision for the future that we are confident in. Our team continues to drive innovation in live production and I have full confidence in the company’s trajectory, and the leaders in place to achieve our goals.”
Nick Garvin officially started at MTVG more than 11 years ago, working in various roles including most recently as COO. Nick has grown into a trusted industry voice and a respected leader. His tenure as COO includes the development and implementation of Cloud Control, MTVG’s flagship remote production solution, 1080P HDR, MTVG Edge, and navigating, negotiating and managing invaluable client relationships.
Outside of MTVG, Nick Garvin founded Stackup, an educational technology startup using AI to deliver metrics on students’ digital reading and learning progress to hundreds of schools across the United States. Stackup’s patented system was named Denver Post’s Tech Startup of the Year in 2016 and was acquired in 2021. Nick was a part of the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 class, as well as Denver Business Journal’s and L.A. TV Week’s 40 Under 40 classes in 2023.
These promotions come at a pivotal time in live sports production, as the regional sports landscape and production workflows are experiencing seismic shifts, which Nick Garvin is navigating for MTVG.
“MTVG is part of who I am, and I’ve been able to learn hands-on what it takes to lead this company,” said Nick Garvin. “As a leadership team, we’ve faced industry challenges head-on over the past few years, and I’m extremely thankful for the expertise I’ve gained from those around me, especially Phil, who as my dad, I have been learning from my entire life, and specifically in business for over the last 20 years or so. This is a crucial time for innovation in our industry, and MTVG is more equipped than ever to reach new heights.”
